I have a guide I bought off the internet on how to make an electric motorcycle. Do any of you have wisdom on such a project? What is the best type of motorcycle? Best batteries? Best electric motor? Thanks. Brad

Re: Wisdom on Electric Motorcycles?
Tue, July 15, 2008 - 12:47 AMI saw something, a You Tube video about an engineering student in the U.S. who made an electric motorcycle himself with the frame of an old Honda XL250. You can probably get one of these 'basketcases' or just the frame for cheap or free. The electric motor? I think it might have been from a washing machine. The best batteries I think are NIHM, or perhaps the gel batteries.
In all three cases, weight is a concern. Go with whatever is lightest. -

for a 250cc bike use an etek r,etek rt or a perm 132 combine any of these motors with an alltrax 7245 (max 72vdc at 400amps) with 6 45ah batterys preferably lithium or something other than lead, but if your budget is lead use gel, the output is less than flooded lead but they are compact and easy to maintain. charge the system with zivan ng-1 total system cost around $3000.00 range about 30miles with lead batterys.
You can mount the motor on the swing arm to make more room for the batterys but it makes for a shitty ride with 30 extra pounds of unsprung weight on the swing arm. good luck, its not as hard as it seems, I have built over 30 electric motorcycles in the last 5 years. (if i can, you can)
